General Manager-Warehouse and Distribution

Abilene, Texas

We are seeking an experienced General Manager for our Abilene location who has successfully managed a large warehouse freight and distribution operation. Our ideal candidate brings a proven record of success in Operations and Sales with the desire to join a dynamic, growing organization.

As the General Manager, you are responsible for the efficient operation of the warehouse, including order fulfillment, shipping/receiving and inventory control activities. Sales experience in maintaining and developing relationships with existing customers as well as the desire to participate with the sales department to grow new business is integral to this role. In this position, you have a starring role in helping us continue to provide outstanding solutions for our nationwide customers.

Job Requirements


  • Customer account management Prospecting, Presentations, Negotiating & closing new business
  • Manage driver routes and handle all driver issues within the region
  • Work in conjunction with corporate accounting staff regarding customer invoicing, vendor payments and COG efficiencies
  • Plan and oversee implementation of policies, procedures, and programs for all areas of operations.
  • Maintain weekly reports for region and submit to corporate office
  • Billing Spreadsheet
  • Owner Operator, Independent Contractors Payables
  • Address/Solve Customer Issues
  • Address/Solve Owner Operator Issues
  • Daily Review of Owner Operator Route Paperwork to include, ensure every delivery has a signature, CODs are collected, and Collection Notices are completed.
  • Owner Operator Engagement
  • Routine Office Maintenance

Sales Requirements


  • Maintain and develop relationships with existing customers
  • Up-Sell additional services including Freight Forwarding to current clients
  • Get referrals from current clients for potential opportunities
  • Develop a database of qualified leads through prospecting decision makers through telemarketing, cold calls, face to face meetings, networking and referrals
  • Gain a clear understanding of customers business and service requirements for operations to support customer and meet expectations
  • Make accurate, rapid cost calculations, and providing prospects with proposals for service
  • Produce agreements including fuel surcharges and insurance requirements
  • Negotiate pricing and service aspects, closing new business
  • Follow up with each A prospect within 24-48 hours of initial contact
  • Follow up on new sales inquiries by telephone and email.
  • Conduct marketing campaigns in assigned territory with the help of the Corporate Office through direct marketing, email campaigns and sales blitz
  • Maintain accurate records of sales and prospecting activities (Sales Report)
  • Submit report weekly to Corporate Office
  • All other duties as directed by Executive Corporate Staff

Experience, Skills, and Abilities


  • Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Effective Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to build rapport, ask questions and listen
  • Ability to negotiate and excellent closing skills
  • Aggressive “hunter mentality”, excellent prospecting skills and strong sales ability
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Problem solving and multi-tasking abilities
  • Team oriented · Self-motivated, energetic, charismatic, and able to think on your feet
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word
  • Microsoft Streets and Trips or equivalent mapping/routing software is required
  • 5 years of general manager experience in a supply chain, warehousing, or distribution environment
  • 5 years of freight forwarding distribution and warehouse experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with computerized scanning equipment
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including planned and unplanned overtime, which may include weekends
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting including developing and/or managing a P&L
  • Experience with HR practices

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
